Fiona Finnegan (b. 1979) is a Belfast-based painter whose

work explores memory, myth, and the uncanny. Her

compositions transform figures, places, and objects into

layered palimpsests, surfaces where presence and absence

coexist.

Built through cycles of layering, sanding, and erasure

on linen and panel, her paintings create dreamlike spaces in

which fragments of personal and cultural memory emerge.

Influenced by Romanticism, symbolism, surrealism, and

Victorian photography, Finnegan’s work draws on folklore,

myth, and imaginative narratives.

She has exhibited widely in

the UK, Ireland, and internationally. A recipient of multiple Arts

Council of Northern Ireland awards, her work is held in public

and private collections including the Arts Council of Northern

Ireland and the University of Ulster.
